Scam Prevention
Though, for the most part, Runescape is an excellent community, it does, like any community, have some untrustworthy and dishonest players. Since Runescape will not return your items to you if you’ve been scammed, you should educate yourselves on the common scams and how to prevent them.

Major Scams:
The following are some major scams that all players should be able to recognize.
- Armor Trimming: For this scam, a player will tell you that they can trim your armor for you, and give you trimmed armor. If you give them the armor to trim the will simply take your armor and log out, never to be seen again.
- Jagex Impersonation: For this scam, a player will contact you claiming to work for Jagex. They will tell you they need your password (the reasons vary). This is a scam – Jagex will never need to ask for your password. Also remember, all Jagex employees have a gold crown next to their usernames.
Hi Olde Dan,
I do like what you are trying to do with alerting people to scams in runescape, although too many people fall victim to a scam before they become aware of its existance.
Last year, I set out with the goal of trying to inform people of scams in order to prevent them from happening. Since then, Jagex have started addressing some of the most common scams and have changed unid herbs to grimy herbs along with planning to launch a global exchange later this month.
All the efforts by Jagex have been addressing many of the scams and helping to prevent ingame ‘oversights’. Although the majority of scams remaining will be trust scams where people fall victim to so called ‘friends’. I find that type of scam the hardest for Jagex to be able to tackle effectively, so more emphasis should be on informing people to not be so naive when it comes to loaning out high value items without any form of collateral.
